Your shopping stays yours
Last updated: July 9, 2026
The short version
Shopping Hero exists to help you find the same or similar products for less. To do that it needs to know what product you're looking at — and nothing more. We don't ask you to sign up, we don't build a profile of you, and we don't sell your data. There is no account, so there is nothing to log in to.
What we collect
When you open the Shopping Hero panel on a product page, the extension reads publicly visible details about that one product so it can look up alternatives. That includes:
- The product's title, price, image, and category, as shown on the page.
- The page URL and site the product is listed on.
That product information is sent to our recommendation service purely to fetch matching listings. We do not collect your name, email, address, payment details, browsing history across sites, or any other personal information.
What we don't do
- We don't build a profile of you or track your browsing history across the web.
- We don't require or create an account.
- We don't sell or rent your data, or use it for advertising.
- On pages where we don't detect a product, the extension stays idle.
Usage analytics & crash reports
To understand how the extension is used and to catch bugs, Shopping Hero sends anonymous, aggregate telemetry to two third-party services: Google Analytics (usage) and Bugsnag (crash and error diagnostics). This data measures the product, not you:
- Which features you use — for example that the panel was opened, a recommendation was clicked, or a retry was attempted — along with coarse, non-identifying details such as a product's category or whether it had a price. It never includes the page URL, the product name, or the price itself.
- A random identifier — not your name, email, or anything that identifies you — lets us count returning usage and measure stability across sessions. We use it only for aggregate metrics, never to build a profile or follow you across the web.
- If the extension hits an error, Bugsnag receives the technical details (message and stack trace) so we can fix it. Any web address in that report is trimmed to the site and path, with the query string removed.
This is on by default, and you can turn it off at any time from the extension's options page — usage and error events then stop being sent. We don't enable Google's advertising features, and this data is never used for advertising.
Data we store locally
The extension keeps a small amount of data in your browser's own storage — such as the address of the recommendation service, your analytics on/off preference, and the random analytics identifier. This lives on your device and none of it identifies you personally.
Affiliate links
When you click through to a recommended product, the link may be an
affiliate link, meaning we may earn a commission if you make a purchase —
at no extra cost to you. These links are marked with
rel="sponsored nofollow" and the panel shows a disclosure.
Clicking a link takes you to the retailer, whose own privacy policy then
applies.
Third parties
Product recommendations are served by our own backend. We also use two third-party processors for the anonymous telemetry described above — Google Analytics and Bugsnag (a SmartBear product) — each receiving only that limited, non-identifying data. When you follow a recommendation you leave Shopping Hero and land on a third-party retailer (for example an online marketplace). We have no control over, and are not responsible for, the privacy practices of those sites.
Data retention
Product lookups are used to answer your request in the moment. We may keep aggregate, non-identifying logs to operate and improve the service, but these are not tied to you as an individual.
Children
Shopping Hero is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
If we update this policy we'll revise the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the extension after a change means you accept the updated policy.
